Beginning on Thursday, September 28th, 2023, Public Works, along with the Fire Department, will be conducting Fire Flow Testing at targeted points throughout the Water Distribution System. All testing will take place between the hours of 8 AM - 3 PM and be completed by Tuesday October 3rd, 2023.
Signs have been set up in the residential areas most likely to be impacted. Maps illustrating the areas of testing are available below.
These tests are conducted every 3 years. The purpose of the testing is to ensure the Fire Department has accurate system flow information available in the event of an emergency.
The flowing procedure will displace sedimentation in the water main pipes. As the flowing is in progress and for a brief period of time following, the water can become cloudy or rust colored with the potential to cause staining. Because of that, we strongly recommend that residents avoid doing laundry, using the dishwasher, showering or engaging in any activities requiring prolonged use of water when flushing is underway in or near your neighborhood.
If you notice any discoloration in your water after flowing is complete in your area, simply run your tap for a few minutes to clear up any remaining mineral deposits from your lines.

Based on recent news events and societal and social media concerns regarding Police law enforcement efforts and use of force tactics, the Village of West Dundee Police Department (WDPD) has reviewed its adherence to the “8 Can’t Wait” standards, as identified by the non-profit organization Campaign Zero.
Through its review, the WDPD demonstrated its continued advocacy for improved, equitable, non-biased and non-violent interactions in service to the Dundee community.
The WDPD recognizes and acknowledges that many of the existing standards and use of force policies identified by Campaign Zero were put into practice within the department over 20 years ago. Upon this most recent review, it was noted that no changes to the existing policies were necessary at this time. The PDF linked below provides an overview of the 8 Can’t Wait evaluation.
The WDPD will continue to strive for 100% compliance with the 6 Pillars of Dedication – Accountability, Respect, Integrity, Courage and Honor – while continuing to serve the West Dundee community.

The Village of West Dundee President and Board of Trustees are committed to serving all residents, businesses and visitors to our community equally and with respect, and we insist that this commitment be reflected in the performance of every Village employee.
As a Board, we reject any act of violence or discrimination against another person in our community. The Village Board is extremely proud of the high standards established by the West Dundee Police Department and their efforts to build positive relationships throughout our community. Our Police Department has and will continue to serve our community with compassion, empathy, acceptance and understanding.
Racism is far reaching and goes beyond policing. Acts of racial injustice have no place in our society and it is our responsibility as a community to foster an inclusive environment where all people feel welcome, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation or cultural background. As a Village, we strive to practice inclusivity in every aspect of service to our community, and with every interaction by our Village employees.
We pledge as Village leaders to work hard, take action and hold ourselves accountable for providing an inclusive community, free of prejudice, where we value and celebrate our differences, and raise awareness for injustices that exist in our society. Civic trust is a privilege that must continue to be earned by the Village on a daily basis. We continue to try to earn that trust and to foster a safe and equitable community.
We call upon all West Dundee residents and business owners to work toward a Village, a State and Nation in which every person is treated with dignity and kindness, acceptance and compassion.
As a Village, we recognize that more needs to be done and we look forward to working with our community and beyond in seeking solutions to the difficulties that plague our society.
Coyote sightings are a common occurrence, especially in winter. While coyotes are not considered to be a public health concern, residents throughout the Dundee area should be reminded to keep a close watch on pets when outdoors, and eliminate sources of food or shelter that would encourage coyotes and other wild animals to frequent your property.
The "Living with Wildlife in Illinois" website is a cooperative effort between the University of Illinois Extension and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. It is designed to assist with human-wildlife conflicts and increase awareness of applicable Illinois conservation laws. This site includes helpful tips to reduce attractions around your home that may lead to unwanted close encounters. Click the link below for more information specifically regarding coyotes.
The above mentioned site states that if you are approached by a coyote, do not run. Yell, stand up straight and wave your arms to make yourself appear larger, or throw something at the coyote to scare it away.
If you should observe a wild animal that appears sick or injured, please contact QuadCom dispatch at 847-428-8784 (or 9-1-1).
Distracted driving poses a deadly risk to everyone on the road - drivers, passengers, bicyclists and pedestrians alike.
In our culture of technology and multi-tasking, it can be difficult for many to focus only on the task at hand. When it comes to driving, it can all to easily mean the difference between life and death.
Click below for some helpful information and to take the pledge to "Just Drive".
Carbon Monoxide (CO), aka "the invisible killer", is a colorless, odorless gas that is produced when fuel burns incompletely. CO can cause serious illness or even death.
Risk of CO poisoning increases in winter due to the increased use of indoor heating sources and less ventilation.
Protect your household by being aware of sources of carbon monoxide and minimizing exposure, knowing the symptoms of dangerous levels of CO exposure in humans and pets, and by installing and maintaining CO detectors outside of sleeping areas and on all levels of your home or business, and testing your CO and smoke alarms once per month.
Should you have questions, please contact the West Dundee Fire Department at 847-551-3805.

As of March 1, 2016, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon customers within the QuadCom 911 service area may be able to use their mobile device to send a text message to 911 for emergency help. (QuadCom serves Barrington Hills, Carpentersville, East Dundee, Sleepy Hollow, South Barrington and West Dundee.)
Texting during an emergency could be helpful if you are deaf, hard of hearing, or have a speech disability, or if a voice call to 911 might otherwise be dangerous or impossible. But if you are able to make a voice call to 911, and if it is safe to do so, you should always make a voice call to 911 to request emergency response from Police, Fire or Emergency Medical Services.
With either a text or voice call, the first information you should provide is your location, in as clear and premise terms as possible. Do not use abbreviations or slang when communicating with 911.
Carbon monoxide (CO) is a deadly, odorless, colorless, poisonous gas created when household appliances that burn fossil fuels burn incompletely (furnace, stove, dryer, fireplace, etc) and by equipment with internal combustion engines (vehicles, mowers, generators, etc).
CO is the leading cause of accidental poisoning deaths in the US. The health effects of CO depend on the concentration and duration of exposure, as well as individual health conditions. Heart patients may experience chest pain at lower levels of exposure. As CO levels increase beyond a tolerable level, symptoms such as headache, fatigue and nausea may become more noticeable. At sustained high concentrations of CO, disorientation, unconsciousness and death are possible.

Home is where most of us feel the safest – but it’s also where we are most likely to experience a fatal fire. In fact, 85% of fire fatalities occur in the home. This is due in large part to homes being unprotected or under-protected in terms of smoke alarms being in working order and sufficient in number and placement.
Click below to learn best practices for the use of smoke alarms in your home to protect yourself and your family, reduce your risk and help you escape quickly in the event of a fire.
The Longmeadow Parkway Fox River Bridge Corridor is a proposed four-lane Fox River Bridge crossing and four-lane arterial roadway corridor with a median, approximately 5.6 miles in length, designed to alleviate traffic congestion in northern Kane County.
The proposed road passes through portions of the Villages of Algonquin, Carpentersville and Barrington Hills, as well as unincorporated areas of Kane County. The western terminus is at Huntley Road west of Randall Road, approximately 1,300 feet northwest of the Huntley/Boyer intersection. From Huntley Road to the Fox River, the corridor primarily traverses mostly undeveloped properties or new subdivisions; these subdivisions were developed with a dedicated right-of-way to accommodate the proposed corridor. After crossing the river, the corridor parallels existing Bolz Road, to the eastern project terminus at Illinois Route 62.
The Village of West Dundee, along with Kane County, McHenry County, Carpentersville, Algonquin, East Dundee, Sleepy Hollow, Gilberts and Huntley have passed resolutions in support of the bridge/corridor over the course of many years since the project began.
Below are some key pieces of information regarding the Longmeadow Parkway Bridge Corridor:
- The Rt. 72 (West Dundee), Main St. (Carpentersville) and Rt. 62 (Algonquin) bridges are currently double their capacity.
- Population west of the Fox River is expected to increase 150,000 by 2040, further impacting traffic congestion and the resulting effects on the economy and community.
- There have been no new river crossings been built in Northern Kane County since the I-90 Tollway Bridge in the 1960's.
- The project location has been approved by the IL Dept. of Natural Resources and the Army Corp of Engineers and is the only approved bridge location between Carpentersville and the McHenry County line.
- More than $35 million has been spent on engineering and land acquisition and 60% of the land has been purchased, to date.
- The project will bring 4000+ jobs to Kane County.
A detailed history and current status and information about the project can be viewed at http://www.co.kane.il.us/dot/foxBridges/longmeadowPkwy.aspx.

Based on direction from the Village Board and a focus on general aesthetics of the neighborhoods of West Dundee, the Village will be placing increased attention a number of common property maintenance code violations.
The areas of code enforcement that will be focused on include:
• Vehicles parked in driveways should not block the sidewalk, particularly during daylight hours, in order to promote a pedestrian-friendly environment throughout the Village.
• Refuse containers should not be placed curbside any earlier than the evening prior to collection. Typically, this is Thursday evening. During the week of the 6 major holidays (New Years Day, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day), collection is moved to Saturday, in which case refuse containers should not be placed earlier than Friday evening.
• Garbage cans should not be stored along the front (street side) of your home, but rather along the side or in the rear yard.
• Grass and weeds within your individual lot should be properly maintained, and do not become overgrown or unsightly. These would include any planting beds, landscape areas or lawns.
• Outdoor fire pits must located in the rear yard and at least 20’ away from any structure or combustible material. No garbage or yard waste is permitted to be burned.
• RVs, boats and trailers may not be stored in any driveway for longer than 48 hours.
Please click below for additional information regarding enforcement intentions related to these code compliance issues.
In 2013, the Villages of West Dundee, East Dundee, Carpentersville and Elgin received grant funding to provide for a regional study regarding housing stock and projected future housing needs.
Through the study, present and future housing needs were analyzed utilizing multiple data sources and existing housing conditions in such areas as housing affordability, housing and transportation costs, and housing condition. Additionally, the capacity for new housing was reviewed by creating profiles of the workforce in the sub region and identification of industry sectors and commuting patterns, and; utilizing population, demographic and employment forecasts and determining potential new populations for each municipality and for the study area as a whole.

With spring comes the sight of young deer and other newborn wild animals.
A doe will leave her fawn(s) alone for many hours every day in order to keep them safe from predators and because they are not able to keep up with her.
You might see a fawn in a field, off the side of a road or in your yard. Regardless, leave them alone unless you observe one of the following indicators that they are in trouble: Please call a licensed wildlife rehabilitator if you observe a fawn that is clearly injured, cries non-stop for hours or is lying with the side of its head on the ground straight in line with its body.
Please do not attempt to move or rescue a fawn left alone. Unless the above mentioned conditions are observed, leave them for their mother's return.
